Grove City is a city in Franklin County, Ohio, United States which was founded in 1852. It is a suburb of Columbus. The city is located at 39°5241N 83°0441W. It has a total area of 16.36 square miles (42.37 km²), of which 16.20 sq miles (41.96 km²) is land and 0.16sq miles (0.41 km²") is water. The population was 41,252 according to the 2020 Census. The area that is now Grove City was a wilderness filled with oak, beech, maple, walnut, dogwood and other trees. Until the mid-19th century, the area's first European settler, Hugh Grant, operated a gristmill in Pittsburgh and transported excess goods down the Ohio River for sale. In 1803, he purchased the land that would become Grove City and returned with his wife Catharine to start a new life. By December 1853, the newly formed (but not yet incorporated) village of Grove City had 50 residents. The town founders named the village for the remaining groves of trees left standing after their initial clearing. At the 2010 census there were 35,575 people, 13,946 households, and 9,585 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 92.6% White, 2.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.3% Asian, 10% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races.

History

Grove City is the primary city name, but also Darbydale, Urbancrest are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Grove City, Ohio. Until the mid-19th century, the area that is now Grove City was a wilderness filled with oak, beech, maple, walnut, dogwood and other trees. The area's first European settler, Hugh Grant, operated a gristmill in Pittsburgh and transported excess goods down the Ohio River for sale, returning to Pittsburgh on foot. In 1803, he purchased the land that would become Grove City and returned with his wife Catharine to start a new life. Grove City's official founder, William F. Breck, bought 15.25 acres of the farm owned by Hugh Grant Jr., son of the first settler in Jackson Township, then added 300 more acres intended for farming. By December 1853, the newly formed (but not yet incorporated) village of Grove City had 50 residents. The town founders named the village for the remaining groves of trees left standing after their initial clearing. The village was platted by George Weygandt, William Sibray and Jeremiah Smith and had a school, church, stores, blacksmith and carpenter shops when it was established in 1852. It was named after the village's original name, Grove Grove, which means "grove" or "groves" in English.

Geography

Grove City is located at 39°5241N 83°0441W. The city has a total area of 16.36 square miles (42.37 km²) of which 16.20 square miles is land and 0.16square miles (0.41km²) is water. The U.S. Census Bureau recorded the population of Grove City as 2,715 in 2010. The population of the city was 2,816 in 2010, and 2,917 in 2010 Census Year Estimates. It is located in the eastern part of the state, near the state line with Nevada. It has a population of 2,611. The United States Census Bureau reported the city's population as 3,711 in 2010 and 3,813 in 2010 Year-Estimate Year-Largest City in the United States. It was the largest city in the state at the time of the 2010 Census, with a total population of 3,912. It also had the highest percentage of people living in poverty, at 0.9%. The city's highest rate of unemployment was at 2.7%. It has the lowest rate of population growth, at 1.3%. It is the second-smallest city in Utah, after Ogden, and the third-largest city in Colorado. It had the largest population growth rate in the U.N. Census Year 2010, at 3.2%. It had a population decline of 0.7% in the year 2010, compared to the year 2000.

At the 2010 census there were 35,575 people, 13,946 households, and 9,585 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 92.6% White, 2.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.3% Asian, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.6%. The median household income was $52,064 and the median family income was $62,059. The per capita income for theCity was $22,305. About 5.3%. of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.4% of those under 18 and 4.8%. of those age 65 or over. The median age was 37.8 years. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.8 males. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07. The age distribution was 28.3. of residents were under the age of 18; 8.4. were between the ages of 18 and 24; 27.4%. were from 25 to 44; 26.6. were from 45 to 64; and 12.2%. were 65 or older. Government

Grove City is located in the South-Western City School District. The city is split between Ohio's 3rd and Ohio's 15th congressional district. The current mayor of Grove City is Richard L. (Ike) Stage. It is also located in Ohio's 16th senatorial district and its Ohio State House Districts are OH-17, OH-23, and OH-24. It has an elected Mayor, an elected City Council, and an appointed Administrator. It was founded in 1958, and its charter was amended in 1982. Its mayor is Richard Stage. The mayor's office is located on the second floor of the Grove City Civic Center, which was built in the early 1900s. It also has a public library on the third floor of a building on the first block of Main Street. The library is open seven days a week and has a free Wi-Fi service. The City's mayor has the power to appoint a City Council member or a City Administrator. Its City Council has the ability to vote on the mayor's salary and other city-related issues. The Mayor's office also has the authority to issue fines to the City Council for violations of the city's city charter. The council can also issue fines for non-compliance with the city charter, such as fines for failing to pay a fine for a parking ticket or failing to comply with a city ordinance. The Council has a power to issue penalties for failing not to pay fines for parking violations, including fines of up to $1,000.

National Register of Historic Places

A.G. Grant Homestead at 4124 Haughn Road, added in 1998. Gantz Homestead, 2233 Gantz Road, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The Gantz homestead was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Cities and Places in the United States in 1998. The Grant homestead is on the National  Register of Historical Cemeteries in the state of Washington and the State Of Wisconsin in 2007. The Grant homestead was added to the National Reconstructions and Sites of National significance in 1979. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It was listed again on the N Records of the United States in 2009. It is listed as a National Reservation of Historical Cinema and Places in the State of Washington in 2010. It also is listed on the State Recreation and Planning and Preservation Commission of Washington and State of Wisconsin in 2011. It has been listed as part of the U S. National Register for historic cities since 1958. It includes the Gantz Homestead, which was added in 1979, and the Grant Homesteads, which were added in 1988 and 2010.
